He has been a regular tyer at both the International Fly Tying Symposium and the Fly Fishing Show almost since their inception, as well as tyed at many other shows around the country. In 1976, Tom moved to Boiling Springs, PA, and got his dream job at the Yellow Breeches Fly Shop, where he met Vince Marinaro, a huge influencer in the way Tom looked at fly design and tying materials.Īt the Sports and Outdoor Show in Harrisburg, PA, Tom placed first four consecutive times from 1996-1999. His skills as both a fly tyer and angler were developed and honed amongst the limestone valleys of Pensylvania, with fly fishers like Bill Skilton, Vince Marinaro, Charlie Fox, Gene Utech, Poul Jorgensen, Ed Shenk, Joe Humphreys, and many others. A fly tyer since the age of 10, Thomas Baltz caught his first trout on a fly in the Jemez River in his native New Mexico.
